Knowledge Course

This 30-hour distance learning course satisfies the DMV knowledge requirement for adults age 18 and up who wish to be licensed through a commercial driving school. It also satisfies the 3-Fail requirement for those trying to get a learner’s permit.

Behind-the-Wheel (vehicle)

Adults who have passed the Knowledge course and are already proficient drivers are eligible to sign up for Adult Behind the Wheel. It consists of seven 50 minute drive times plus seven 50 minute observations. NOTE: This course does not TEACH driving, it tests driving (see details below). Upon successfully completing the course, the student will receive an Adult Waiver which can be presented to DMV for a license.

Adult Behind the Wheel costs $375.

Adult Driver's Ed is a two-part course leading to an Adult Waiver (which you can give to the DMV and they will give you a driver's license without a waiting period.) Most people take the Driver's Ed Knowledge course before getting their learner's permit, but if an adult has a learner's permit and can already drive, but has never taken Driver's Ed, it is OK take both courses simultaneously with the same school.

Adult Knowledge Course

We offer the Virginia-approved Drivers Ed Knowledge which is required for students 18 years of age and up who wish to road-test at a commercial school. You can take it before or after you get your learner's permit at DMV. In fact, it's a great way to prepare for the learner's permit test! And if you've failed the learner's permit test 3 times, this course will satisfy your 3 Fail requirement.

After completing this course (and obtaining your learner's permit at DMV), it's time to get driving! If you're already a proficient driver, you can earn your adult waiver and get your license within 7 days by taking Adult Behind the Wheel. If you aren't ready to pass your road test yet, we have a great Private Driving Lessons program to get you up and running quickly.

Behind-the-Wheel

In order to get your license through a driving school, the DMV requires adults to complete seven Behind the Wheel sessions. During these sessions, a certified instructor will evaluate your driving skills in the full variety of common situations including main roads, back roads, city driving, and highway driving. During the 7th session you will take your road test and get your Adult Waiver, which can be presented to the DMV for a Driver's License.

To qualify for Adult Behind-the-Wheel, you must have:
1. The Knowledge portion of Drivers Ed
1. Have a valid learner's permit
2. Be 18 or older
3. Have passed the Knowledge portion of Drivers Ed
4. Be fully competent driving on back roads, main roads, highways, city driving, and parking. (If you aren't there yet, we have a great private lessons program that can bring you up to speed quickly and efficiently.)

After registering for Adult Behind-the-Wheel, you can call the office to schedule your lessons.  We have times available 7 days a week at a variety of times from morning to evening.

The price is $375.00 for Adult Behind-the-Wheel.

Most students take the full Adult Driver's Education package.

To qualify to take Adult Driver's Education, a student must:

1. Be 18 years of age or older.
2. Have a learner's permit
3. Be a competent driver in all areas, including main roads, back roads, city, highway, and parking.

Frequently asked questions

What courses do you offer?

We are a full service driving school and we offer Driver Improvement Clinic (which is the course the courts and DMV require you to take if you get a ticket, as well as Private Driving Lessons (to teach people how to drive) and the DMV authorized Driver’s Education packages that help teens and Adults get their driver’s licenses in Virginia.

When are you open?

Our business office is open from 9am-5pm Monday - Friday and 8am-12pm on Saturdays. But in-car lessons go from 8am-9pm on most days (subject to teacher availability)

Are you accredited?

Yes, our courses are fully accredited and accepted by all courts and DMVs in Virginia. Our Driver Improvement Clinic satisfies requirements from all over the United States.

Do you teach people with disabilities or who don’t speak English well?

We have a lot of positive experience working in-car with people who have not been successful learning to drive in the past. We are especially good with high-functioning autistic (Asperger’s) students, ESL students, and students with PTSD, ADD, and Anxiety disorders. ESL students are welcome to bring an interpreter to classes and into cars, free of charge. Special fees may apply for special needs instruction.

When are your classes?

Our in-person Driver Improvement Clinic is offered every other Saturday at 8AM and every other Wednesday at 9AM.

Our in-person Driver Manual Course (often called the “3-Fail Class,” or the Re-Examination Course) is offered every other Saturday at 8:30am.

Our cars run 7 days a week in the morning, afternoon, and evening for in-car classes, and we have online versions of most of our courses that you can do whenever you want from your home.

Where are you located?

We have two locations, one in Colonial Heights and one in Glen Allen.

Our Glen Allen location is 10 minutes from Short Pump Mall. The address is: 4870 Sadler Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Our Colonial Heights location is just off the Boulevard in Colonial Heights, on the same side street as the Police Station, across from the Goodwill Thrift Store. The address is 103 Highland Ave, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.

What age do you teach?

We teach persons of all ages and abilities. As long as you have a learner’s permit or some other document that allows you to legally drive in VA, we will work in-car with you.
