Senior Driving Course
If you’re worried about a loved one’s driving ability due to age-related impairments, you should consider scheduling a senior driver evaluation with Colonial Driving School. These evaluations assess driving capabilities, as well as evaluate cognitive and physical disabilities within the context of operating a motor vehicle.
At Colonial Driving School, we don’t believe it’s a simple “yes” or “no” answer. There are normally ways to compensate for age related challenges. Therefore, in addition to the assessment, Colonial Driving School will offer a thorough debriefing session afterwards. The debriefing session will focus on ways the mature driving can utilize his or her strengths, and overcome any age-related weaknesses.

Senior Driving Assessment
According to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), “Per mile traveled, fatal crash rates increase noticeably starting at age 70/74 are are highest among drivers 85 and older. The increased fatal crash risk among older drivers is largely due to their increased susceptibility to injury.” In addition to greater susceptibility to injury and death, age related impairments make mature drivers more prone to accidents in the first place.
IIHS also states that, “older drivers are keeping their licenses longer and driving more miles than in the past.” Driving provides a freedom and independence like nothing else. However, it’s also the most dangerous activity that the average person does on a daily basis. Our goal with the senior evaluations is to equipped mature drivers with the knowledge and techniques necessary for them to drive safer and longer.
